Planners throughout the South-West
are now increasingly looking to implement the use of more natural
stone into new housing developments. Guidelines and directives are
requesting that newbuild construction seeks to be sympathetic to
existing local developments. In some cases, this involves the matching
of localised natural stone, indigenous to the area
Manufacturers have therefore
devised the flint block system which enables
natural stone to be used in a blockwork form. The block is
445mm x 220mm in size and comprises of a lightweight back
mix – thus ensuring all handling guidelines are met.
Traditionally and as today, contractors struggle with many
issues linked to the use of natural stone including lack of
available experience and labour, slow speed of construction
and high costs. |
The flint block
meets these issues with its ease of construction, saving on
costs and fastrack capabilities. Blocks are also load bearing.
Manufacturers began with supplying knapped flint blocks only but they now offer
an extensive bespoke range of most random natural stones. Trial samples
can be offered to assist matching existing stone schemes –
in the form of a sample panel sent to site. Advice and guidelines
are also given at this stage to agree types of mortar and
demonstrate pointing techniques.
