Sustainability
Sustainability. One Word but many meanings.
Dependant on many factors, sustainability expresses a multitude of meanings for everyone. Also comments linked to this enormous word – from all sections of the building industry – will each have their own biased opinions. With an individual perspective and interpretation of sustainable values.
As an industry, the building sector, more than most, has great opportunity to discuss, apply, promote and design sustainable led principles and materials into construction. Unfortunately, this is often against massive commercial pressures and restraints. However, there are clients, architects and developers who are beginning to implement bold sustainable led ideals into their designs, ahead of pure financial gain and greed.
These innovators and early pathfinders make enormous professional sacrifices, to ensure that core beliefs meet their visions for the way construction and design is conducted in the future. Manufacturing costs of new, innovative ‘sustainable’ materials will become more affordable as industry adopts these principles in bulk.
South-West brick and stone make a conscious effort to reclaim all brick and stone samples from both architects and developers. We also look to minimise actual samples delivered – by first narrowing down the selection process by means of early viewing colour photo-cards. In any selection or specification process, we aim to firstly name local manufacturers in the vicinity of a proposed scheme, thus giving a first choice to local, idiginous materials.
We endeavour where possible, to assist in the specification of local products as and when possible.
